Since 1885, the study of pharmacy has held a prominent place on the Auburn University campus. By 1941, the School of Pharmacy was officially established and now admits a class of approximately 150 future pharmacists each Fall. With a total Pharm.D. enrollment nearing 600 students, HCOP also has a bustling graduate program of more than 60 students pursuing masters and Ph.D. degrees. The School of Pharmacy became the College of Pharmacy in 2022.
As the only public school of pharmacy in the state of Alabama, HCOP is committed to training pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists to improve the health outcomes of those in the state and beyond. To support that commitment, along with Walker Building in the heart of the Auburn campus, the college also has a satellite campus in Mobile, the Pharmacy Research Building located in Auburn's Health Sciences Sector, and six clinical sites spread around the state.

The pharmacy practice experiences of a Harrison College of Pharmacy student are not limited to their respective campus. HCOP Pharmacy Practice Faculty are located at multiple practice sites across the state of Alabama and Columbus, Georgia. The sites are broken into regions, including Huntsville/Decatur/North Alabama, Birmingham/Tuscaloosa, Auburn/Montgomery/Columbus, Georgia, and Mobile/Pensacola, Florida.
With HCOP being on a traditional university campus, faculty and preceptors at these training sites give students access to contemporary pharmacy practice during IPPE rotations and the APPEs during the fourth year. With so many clinical sites, HCOP is able to offer diverse and unique experiences, along with more traditional rotations. The rotations are precepted by full-time faculty and affiliate faculty preceptors.
